Now I begin to see what all the fuss is about! |
I completed the 2mm scale DBA armies this week for Geoff and must say I'm rather pleased with the results. As much as I wanted to remove the bases from the cards for group photos I decided best to leave them as was. Two 13 base DBA armies that fit into a cigar box and the idea is that they can be used to play on a 1foot square terrain board as the bases are half sized! Must be the ultimate Portable Wargame? I really like the concept of a game that you can take away with you on a weekend break etc. As usual these tiny figures look much better in the flesh than I can capture with my IPhone camera but you get the idea.
Epic DBN. Made another of my quick videos describing my DBN Epics set up! Something of a contradiction in terms but the figures are perfect for the rules and I had my first little battle this morning that ended with a victory for the French. I was a bit rusty with the rules but I'm sure I will quickly pick them up again after a couple more goes. I think in future I'll just use the 5 x 3 dining table to give a bit of extra width as I'm just not keen on square battlefields but apart from that I'm happy so far. Need a few more of Steve Clays 10mm buildings as they work well for the scale to my eyes.

Hi Lee, I have enjoyed seeing this collection grow. This is a hugely compelling scene. I think your set-up will sell this to plenty of viewers.
ReplyDeleteHello again Norm, many thanks for continuing to look in here. I can't quite put my finger on what exactly has attracted me to the Warlord Epics - having vowed that I would not be doing Napoleonics again! - but possibly a mix of nostalgia (Airfix), accessibility and the pure aesthetic appeal of these little guys ranked up shoulder to shoulder as they should be. We have become so used to seeing Napoleonics based up with an empty file between men that is so refreshing to see them like this, much more realistic. They are also so cheap at around 5p per figure that you can experiment with conversions etc. All in all a very good thing for the hobby.
DeleteYeah I agree with Norm, an excellent set up with some really lovely units. More importantly, this size of game is within the reach of most folks and these pictures give the lie to the old 6x4 is the only way to do things. I’m loving the videos too, and would do something similar other than the fact that my brummie accent would make me an instant laughing stock. Lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks JBM mate :) I think one thing I took a way from this game is that I'll go with 4 x 3 for future battles, still a nice manageable size though, Took 4 attempts to make that video, twice I had a cut jump on the table and then the dog started barking at the postman! I find videos just save me tons of typing and I have tried to work on the mumbling a bit. Accents are what they are, I was worried I might come across as sounding like Del Boy!
DeleteLee, great video, lovely set up. I’ve never been as lucky with my eBay tree purchases , these look nice. As to DBN as you say there is a lot of subtlety to them and some large actions can be fought if that is your liking a great set of rules. Keep up the good work
ReplyDeleteCheers Graham, I enjoyed myself. The trees are lovely little things and dirt cheap, I'll send you the link. These are 7cm tall but I cut about 15mm off before basing them on the DFC circles. Arrived within 3 days of ordering too.
DeleteIt’s amazing the amount of details you’ve painted on such small figures. Very impressive Lee - well done 👏👏
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Geoff
Thanks Geoff, really pleased that you are happy with them.
