The epics go marching on!

Another quick painting progress post. I do have some thoughts I'd  like to share on this epic theme. the painting, basing and future direction, but for now here are what I have so far painted from the huge box of plastic sprues, grey and blue, that remind me so much of my early Airfix days. 24 sprues of infantry in the box, I just cant help smiling every time I open it to take the next one out.

I have just 30 figures ( 3 sprues) to complete Reb unit number 4 tomorrow, that will make a grand total so far of 500 painted including artillery. I still have reservations about the guns, but I'll discuss that next post. Time being a few photos.

  2. Wow - that mass effect is brilliant isn't it! Re. the guns - the barrels look out of scale?? is that a casting problem on the muzzle as well - looks slightly squared off/bolt like?

    1. Steve, yep, the mass infantry effect works well I have an issue with the guns, they are all like the early 6lb smoothbore but way overscale! I really don't like them very much. What you describe was my attempt to trim down the ends to more resemble the 6" rifle, but not very successfully. Have had some Kallistra delivered today and they are little beauties and a perfect match for scale so I might have to replace the artillery. The infantry still represent great value though, 2400 for £90, can't argue with that.

  3. Hi JBM, thanks for looking in again and sorry if I'm banging on a bit about these Epics! The guns are nicely made BUT there is no distinction between the iron rifled guns and the Bronze smoothbores, not just colour but the shape of the barrels. The models are OK for the early 6lb smoothbores but to represent a 3" rifle the barrels needs to be trimmed down (which I have tried to do), I'm a fussy old sod. I can live with it though.

  4. You’ve really turned out the miniatures in an epic style! I love the look of the infantry. You did a great job on the miniatures and it’s kinda unbelievable how fast you got these painted. It’s like an instant ACW collection. 😀

    1. Thanks Stew, I have rather gone at it over the last three weeks! I'll probably slow down a bit, a couple of 60 figure regiments a week is very manageable time wise with these figures.

  5. You must be just churning through them, are you going to be able to stop?

  6. Rob, these are so easy to paint in the strips, and then they just slot straight into the bases :) But you know me well enough now, at any moment I could tire of them and move onto something else!
