With the first batch painted and varnished I thought I would try to get a few shots in natural light to show the effect of the satin finish. Not sure how good the photos are but you get the idea I hope overall effect. Rob, I'm working on my pie and skewbalds! I still have around 330 more mounted Indians to paint (plus 100 on foot) so I'm sure I'll get better at them and I want to capture some of those 'fleshy' muzzles going forward. Overall I have to say I'm very happy with them and I know that Mark is too :)
Day off then prepping up a box of 1/72nd scale Polish Winged Hussars for Old John.
Box 1 completed.
I didn't think satin varnish would make much difference - I was wrong it's really brought the figures to life. They look lovely and I assume the proportion of 'brown' horses will reduce as you paint more of the fabulously coloured Indian ponies.
ReplyDeleteInterested to see how the US cavalry turns out.
BTW what manufacturer are OJ winged hussars by?
Hi Rob. Yes, I plan to paint lot more of the colourful ponies as things progress. This is going to be a good 8 month project I think. Fortunately Mark is going to pick everything up in person once everything is completed! I'll be using the PG Pony wars 7th cavalry as a guide too, they look wonderful. Satin varnish is my favourite :)
DeleteOJ's winged Hussars - there is a box of 16 plastics by Zvezda and a bag of 12 metals that look nice and crisp but will have to check manufacturer.
Nice job Lee. The satin does help keep the ‘pop’.
ReplyDeleteThanks Norm, nothing like a spot of Satin Varnish, especially for horses :)
DeleteLee.
my other Winged Hussars are from Irregular Miniatures, mounted on a mix of horses from different makers, plus in box are Polish dragoons mounted and dismounted by Irregular miniatures with Les Higgins horses, as well as some mounted generals, foot drummers and officer all by Irregular, all for Vienna 1683 and GNW, plenty for Lee great painting talent , cheers Old John
ReplyDeleteHello John, I'll be painting right through your box now, starting with the Zvezda Winged Hussars and followed by the Irregulars who are really nice detailed castings. Had a look through everything yesterday and it's nice to back with them again. I can only say a big thank you John for your incredible patience :) I know you understand the situation recently, but I am easing back as I'm within a few months of my Pension :)
DeletePhotos next week!
Take care and thanks,
Lee.
