A quick general update on what's on the painting desk. I'M finishing off the the remainder of the Hannibal Barca Box set for Leo, the 28 skirmisher bases (each of 5 individual figures) and the command packs left to go this week then a final shipment to Arizona via FedEx. Door to door in 5 working days is a remarkable service and the big advantage of the Epics is that they pretty robust little things with very little weight (plastic bases etc). I do wrap each base in bubble wrap and pack in cat food pouch boxes within a shoe box outer carton for protection.
Once shipped I'll paint a couple more 20mm Strelsi units for Old John before returning to Epic ACW's for Noel as I'd like to get his ACW's completed by start of December.
Meantime I have another Warlord Epic commission incoming, something interesting, Jacobite infantry for the '45 Rebellion. I offered to do a couple of sample strips first to see what can be done as I have not painted these before but the order is for 32 strips, 16 bases, 4 bases per 80 figure unit. The Clansmen utilise the figures from the previous Pike & Shotte release of Montrose's Highlanders (see Warlord Games image below) and the British Foot will utilise the new Revolution infantry sets, a very clever idea I think.
And of course, just to get me in the mood for the period I had to re watch the classic 1964 docu-drama in glorious black and white!
My wife and I saw this Culloden film in a visitor centre during a walking holiday in the Cairngorns back in the mid 1970s. It was very dated even then, but I enjoy it and felt it had a very authentic feel to it. I was delighted when I discovered it again on YouTube a few years ago, and have watched it a couple of times since then. I think the black and white treatment greatly adds to its appeal.
ReplyDeleteHi Paul,
DeleteI think it remains a remarkable example of just what can be achieved in terms of historical accuracy on a low budget and the B/W film adds to the atmosphere. Compare this to the recent King and Conqueror BBC effort portraying events of 1066 which is more like a fantasy film!
Thanks for commenting and I hope you are both keeping well out there is Spain :)

Lee.
That is a clever idea indeed Lee - wish I’d thought of it but probably a project too far !
ReplyDeleteI believe it is intended as a display game somewhere 'Up North' next year Ian :) I hope I can do the Clansmen justice with the paint brush.
DeleteCheers,
Lee.
Looking forward to the Jacobites!
ReplyDeleteCheers Ray, a very useful set these Highlanders!

There is a 2 min video on YouTube from the Warlord Games open day (yesterday) that shows these armies on the table and they look good.
ReplyDeleteHi Norm, I'll go and see if I can find that one :)
DeleteBtw, great read on your blog re AI this morning.
Cheers,
Lee.
