Finished these yesterday, 12 muskets and 12 pikes, Ral Partha figures date stamped 1979 on the bases. Pleased with how they turned out because I have not really painted figures of this type before. The splendid Grandvizier mounted figure and the Iman next up then onto some 15mm ACW's for Graham C.
Images below taken pre varnish and final touch up.
Just to add that I have bids in on a few 1/72nd scale WW1 aircraft models and Rob has sent me some great ideas for the flight stands and fittings. The old Paragon rules are almost impossible to find now so if anyone has any ideas on rules that will work with the stands please let me know.
Beautifully done figures! Ral Partha humans always had lovely proportions. I had (still have?) a bunch of their medieval/fantasy stuff 40 years ago.
ReplyDeleteBest Regards,
Stokes
Thank you Stokes. First time I have ever seen these figures and they are very good.
DeleteNeat. I keep toying with the idea of 18th c. Turks, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
ReplyDeleteVery colourful army FMB :)
DeleteI paticularly like the Iman (Imam?) with his book (of spells?) under his arm and clearly on the lookout for a bold young lad to help him recover a magic lantern.
ReplyDeleteThey do have a charm of their own Rob. I have plenty more to do including armoured cavalry riding armoured horses. Yes, the Imam a splendid little figure.
DeleteA great chance to get some wonderful colours onto the figures.
ReplyDeleteYes Norm, and John does allow me to use my imagination and own style, although he provides full colour references for everything.
DeleteThat book is an old friend!
ReplyDeleteThe old Ral Partha's certainly painted up well. Good work!
Many thanks Ross, wonderful old castings these. You never know with John what treasures are in the box!
DeleteGreat looking janissaries and officers Lee. They are such a colourful army, are you enjoying painting them?
ReplyDeleteRegards, James
Thanks James. I'm really enjoying painting them, no doubt about that. Of course I'm being paid for it but it just works for me as the painting is where the pleasure is for me now :)
DeleteFantastic painting as always, worth every penny cheers Old John
DeleteCheers John. I'm looking forward to the Spahi cavalry next, more lovely castings by Ral Partha.
DeleteYou’ve done a cracking job on those Ottomans, I’d forgotten how nice those Ral Parthia figure were. The ECW arrived today and from the few pieces I’ve had chance to look at they are excellent - plans afoot. I have to clear the office/ unit tomorrow so I’m hoping to unpack them properly tomorrow evening I’m really pleased I bought them
ReplyDeleteThanks Graham. I'm glad the ECW's have gone to a good home and above all will be used and enjoyed :)
DeleteSplendid looking Ottomans!
