Perry's 'Travel battle' ....more inspiration.

I have been spending a bit of time looking at product reviews and examples of painted sets before my own arrive. I found these on the Perry's Facebook page and they really set my imagination alight! I can't really explain what draws me to this game, but I'm intrigued by the challenge of painting both the figures and terrain boards.  I think you either 'get it' or you don't, but I'm keen to support the initiative and I know that plastic tooling is very expensive, this must represent a considerable investment for the Perry's and I wish them well.

Example painted by Alan Perry, images borrowed from Facebook page by way of inspiration!

  1. It looks a lovely set up. It reminds me a bit of the Hinchliffe 12mm system they attempted to push in the 1970's.

    1. I remember the Hinchliffe system 12mm, was it really that long ago!

  2. Very attractive - I worry a bit about the prognosis for the one-off 8mm figure scale, but these look like a de luxe version of the photos out of the old Morschauser books (which are considered very smart and insightful now, whereas they used to be regarded as quirky and not the thing at all). It is interesting. Why, I am even interested myself...

    Thanks for this.

    1. Tony, You gave me a copy of that book several years ago and I actually looked at it again recently when I was looking into square grids. Re the 8mm plastic figures, knowing the Perry's this will be just the beginning, there are already rumours of an ACW version.

  3. Lee, a short, but good post that says everything that I feel about this game. I have started painting mine. There are a fair few naysayer comments to related posts at the moment, with an unfair focus on costs. I agree with you that the start-up cost for this would have ben significant. The boards are very good quality and I am certain that this game will turn into something that those who own it, are glad they do.

    1. Hi Norm,
I look forward to seeing what you do with yours. As for cost, it's comparable to the Commands & Colors series, I think Napoleonic Expansion 6 is going for around £57.00. When you look at the production pictures of the figure greens alone you can appreciate the time and skill that has gone into this set.
