'Battlescale' buildings and this weeks output.

This weeks ECW output is two foot regiments (grey and dark red), a regiment of horse and two command bases. In addition I painted and based the 5 half timbered buildings by 'Battlescale', really nice resin models that work well with 15mm figures in my opinion.

I'm planning a run through of the Forlorn Hope rules within the next few weeks to get a feel again for them. So far the five regiments of foot that I have completed are all of 24 figures plus the command strip, I really need to paint some smaller units, I'm thinking 6 pikes and 12 muskets next. FH uses 10 sided dice, something I don't have in my extensive dice collection so I have ordered some from eBay.

From this week things will slow down a bit as I'm going to be painting other stuff for Graham and John. To be honest painting ECW infantry can get a little repetitive and I don't want to burn myself out on these. Saying that I still plan a unit of foot and a unit of horse each week!

Below: the command bases will be 1 mounted and 1 foot figure. I love the 'General Coaker' foot figure (left holding hat) which was a little freebie from PP with my initial big order. (photo pre satin varnish).

  1. Nice work, the Battlescale buildings are spot on. I am just putting together a building kit and after much glue fumes and forcing bits into shape, I long for a single solid building piece like Battlescale put out.

    1. It's funny you know Norm, I fell big time for MDF buildings when I was painting Flames of war stuff, but these days I find the resin buildings more enjoyable as they carry more detail in relief. I like Steves sculpts and his castings are crisp and free of air bubbles. The PP's being true scale 15mm figures work perfectly well with the 10mm models.

  2. I was undecided about buying battle-scale - my Wofun are 18mm and I’m worried those lovely buildings will be just a teeny bit too small for them. Might need to look at their 20 mm stuff.

    1. Hi there JBM. I found the Battle scale buildings worked well with the 18mm AB Napoleonics, but the WoFuns I would guess are slightly chunkier? I have known Steve Clay of Battlescale for many years since back in his carpet fitting days when we discovered a mutual passion for Thin Lizzy! I'm pleased to see his models selling well as I know how much time he puts into the sculpting, individual bricks and roof tiles etc. The 20mm range at the moment is limited to WW2 which is in great demand. Might be worth you lookiing at the old Hovels range as they do some nice half timbered buildings in 15mm scale.

  3. Hello Lee,

Beautiful work old chap - love the buildings and the scale looks just right alongside the 15s. Methinks I need to take a look at their range!

    All the best,

    1. Thank you David, I'm enjoying myself here :) Battlescale do great buildings and scenic items in the smaller scales, well worth a look.

Glad you found a buyer for the ECW books.

      Regards,
      Lee.

    1. Cheers Steve, Vallejo London grey base with light grey highlights. Tricky with greys, too much highlight can spoil it I find. Not sure what to do next, maybe a purple regiment or a 'white' regiment. I'm planning fictitious forces along the lines of those in the example battle in the Airfix Guide or Charles Grants ECW's, (who can forget the Parliamentarian General Harbottle Grimstone!),so I'm not following a strictly historical campaign as you are, I have to say I really admire your depth of research on each regimental history.
