Portuguese cavalry for John.

What strange times we are living through! This morning my wife had to phone 111 because our youngest daughter - who is living with us - developed a dry cough which has persisted for 24 hours. I too have developed what feels like a cough and cold with a dry throat. Unable to take our temperatures due to the fact that thermometers are sold out everywhere we thought it worth a phone call for advice on what to do. The result is 14 days isolation for all of us, Chloe's boyfriend has also been staying over so that's the four of us stuck indoors together for the next two weeks! The nurse was very reassuring and said that unless the symptoms get much worse then there is no need to attend hospital for testing. At the moment it feels like a mild case of flu.

Luckily I have my figure painting to keep me occupied and I am able to get outdoors to exercise Poppy the dog avoiding other dog walkers that I might see.

I finished these six Portuguese cavalry for John C yesterday, they are of course 20mm castings and looking rather splendid in yellow coats with blue turned back cuffs. The trumpeter is in reverse colours. I have some Spanish infantry and a mounted provost left to finish before I return the box to John but I will need to check re how this virus is transmitted first.

    1. Thank you Norm, just feels like mild flu, or what my wife calls 'man flu', could well be, that's the issue really!

  2. Norm said it - that is a damn lovely yellow...

Re COVID -we ar ein same boat - grandson lives with us and was sent home from school yesterday with a cough.. i'm 90% certain it isn't the C word, just a cold, but without the ability to easily self test you're stuffed really..

    1. That is exactly the issue Steve, is it just seasonal coughs and cold or the virus, in some ways I'd rather know and get it over with. Saw a photo this morning taken in Alicante, bloody armoured cars patrolling the streets now and 600 euro on the spot fine if you are caught outdoors without proof of a good reason!

Re the yellow, my newly discovered basecoat for yellow is Vallejo German Cammo orange ochre (dunno how I came to have it) as it covers very well over black,in this case over painted with Deep Yellow, the ochre left here and there to create the shade seems to work well.

Hope your Grandson and the family keep well.

    1. Thanks for the good wishes Blaxkleric. Yellow method described above, a hard colour to get to cover over black.

  5. Hi Lee

Sorry to hear that you have had what might be early symptons of coronavirus.

We are in our second week of Lockdown here in Spain, so have some experience of what self isolation is. We have not had any symptoms, but like all of the rest of Spain are subject to strict curfew. I know that you look at my blog now and then, so you may have noticed that I have started a diary of the Lockdown. You may be interested because of having lived here for a year or so.

The real reason I am commenting is to say how surprised I am at how casually the whole subject is being handled in the UK. We follow your progress in the UK papers and UKTV, and cannot understand why a strict curfew has not been imposed, as it has in Italy, France and Spain. I really hope that you are not building up a real crisis in the near future.

Do take care of yourself and your family. I hope to hear shortly that the symptoms are only a cold or light flu.

    1. Hi Paul,

Things are slowly being tightened up here now. I personally have not been out the house for over two weeks - except to walk the dog early in the mornings. Symptoms easing so hopefully just seasonal cough/cold. Can't buy thermometers anywhere here so unable to check temperature. Our youngest daughter and her boyfriend are staying with us and both have had persistent cough and colds plus sore throats, we are managing not to kill each other being locked in the house together, but stay in until we all feel better just in case.

Take good care of yourselves, I will follow your diary.

      Lee.
