Lockdown project - 9 becomes 14!

Over the last week I have managed to add 4 elements of French infantry to the total, 3 line infantry and 1 of light infantry (Voltiguers). I'm now switching to some British troops by way of a change with 1 base of line infantry done. As said, these are being painted specifically for DBN and one thing I am pondering is if I should represent each base with a flag, and in the case of the British a single flag or two flags? I think two flags in a 10 figure base will look too much so I'm thinking along the lines of maybe alternating Kings colours and regimental colours. The other question is should I have say half the bases without flags? Meantime I'm painting a single standard bearer per base while I think about it.

So that's a total of 14 elements painted so far, so I'm pretty much on track for 2 x 12 element armies by end of the month, although the days do seem to be whizzing by!

I also have another box of figures to paint for Old John which I plan to start at the weekend. Painting aside I'll be playing my first 6mm WSS game during this week, and I'm expecting my Baccus order any day now as it was posted end of last week.

Another decision that I have taken is that the future for my hobby is going to be very much small scale and small space, with the 40mm's being kept as display figures which satisfies the collector instinct in me. To this end I'm selling off the last remnants of my Bolt Action stuff (I have plans to do WW2 in 6mm as Baccus expand the range). Staring with the German SS platoon which is now on ebay (link below), I will follow with the late war US platoon later this week when I find time to do it.

As I won't be requiring the 28mm terrain items any longer my two youngest granddaughters received a large box from Grandad containing S&A trees, hedges, walls & roads along with three large buildings with which they were delighted and quickly set up as a 'farm' populated by plastic animals and 'Paw Patrol' characters. Obviously I have only seen the photos but they are clearly getting a lot of enjoyment out of it, far better than selling it on ebay. I am told that it's now called 'Tree World'.

  1. Gorgeous figures, knocked out rapidly, the scale seems to suit you! Will you do bolt action or similar in 20mm in future then? My favourite pictures are the new farm buildings, a happy retirement! I can vouch for the quality of your 28mm bolt action figures, good luck with your Ebay sale!

    1. Hello Iain, seeing the girls playing with the new 'farm set' gave me a real boost. I'm seeing my future now back with 6mm scale, the Baccus WW2 range is still in the early design/release stages but I just know it's going to be good. Whatever the eBay sales make will be plunged right back into more soldiers :)

  2. In my minds eye I think of DBN bases as "battalions" so a flag per base is what I will go for if I pursue the project... PS. I have bought the rules, any view on what the firing factor "Artillery not responding to enemy Firing" is representing???

    1. Hi Steve, yes I think I will go with one flag per base. Re the artillery rule question, I'm going to play through a game and see if I can work it out. I do know that the authors are very approachable if you have any questions. Have you watched the YouTube DBN videos to see how the rules play? Well worth a watch at least the first two - the 12 point game and the 24 point Peninsular game.

Alex Testo is co author and makes the videos, you can find him on FB or leave comments/questions on the videos and he will answer.

    2. Cheers Lee - think I cracked it... the penalty is for the artillery not firing at someone who is firing at them, if no one is firing at them then the factor doesn't apply - logical when you work it through.. :o)

    3. I was just looking it up Steve when I saw this. Foot artillery can't move and fire or fire outside arc so the factor applies when unable to return fire? Artillery can't claim the Tactical factor when firing within 300 paces either,(cannister range) because they are deemed to be in close combat. I guess all will become clear with testing.

Going to watch the 1st 'teaching video' now:) Alex does explain the game very well. I think I would go a 3' square board though as things do look a bit tight and squished!

  3. Those look great Lee! Also, good to re-purpose your old scenery for the use of Paw Patrol - Mayor Goodway will be appreciative!

    1. It's a very special place JBM, the Dinasoars have now moved in along with numerous In The Night Garden characters and the Pepper Pig family. It is a multi cultural utopia where inhabitants co exist in peace.

  5. Lee, your figures look lovely and I think there is much to come from your table in the future. You may inadvertently have set your granddaughters off on the path of a future in 28mm wargaming :-)
