Recently I have been painting more 'Streltsy' (Wiki Link ) units for Old John, I believe we are up to around 25 now, each comprising 24 to 30 figures! I really enjoy painting these units as John allows me pretty much free rein with regards to colours, each unit wearing a uniform coat edged with fur trim. These are of course 20mm/ 1/72nd from a variety of plastic manufacturers. Recently John has also been looking into 3D Printed figures to add to his collection and this week some lovely Cossacks, Streltsi and Polish Winged Hussars arrived for me to paint. I never fail to be amazed at the quality of 3D printed soldiers which has come on leaps and bounds in recent years. It will be a little while before I get on to them but in the meantime I thought you might like to have a look at them, I think they will paint up a treat.
Apologies for the poor quality photos.

Nice figures! Can't wait to see them painted.
ReplyDeleteThey look lovely. i will be interested to know whether weapons etc are more fragile in resin.
ReplyDeleteA bit more fragile Norm, yes, just require more care in handling but not 'brittle'. John usually attaches a note saying ' please unpack with care'! But resins are coming on and more like hard plastic.
DeleteJohn has 'done well' to have you painting figures for him! 😀
ReplyDeleteThese winged hussars will look sensational with your brushwork. Have you previously painted some of the Zvezda or Orion ones for him (I cannot recall)? Both glorious sets of figures with slightly different 'takes' on the subject.
Best wishes, James
Hi James,
DeleteI am very ;lucky to have John as a customer and friend, it's been over 15 years now painting for him, many thousands of figures added to his vast collection. I believe that I have painted figures from about every manufacturer of plastic 1/72nd figures for John over the years including many rare/out of production sets. We worked out John has almost 200 winged hussars alone for example that I have painted for him! The 3D resins do look nice prints so should paint up well.
All the best,
Lee.
