Lovely range of figures, I think possibly their best. Had a test run through this morning of my '1776' DBN variant so grabbed a few close ups.

They look fantastic Lee, as does your "small space"!
ReplyDeleteThank you rross :)

Very nice Lee. I guess your AWI amendments are quite minor.
ReplyDeleteHi Jim. Yes, you are correct, I mainly removed all non relevant types (heavy cavalry etc) from the play sheets and replaced 'Irregulars' with Indians giving them improved hand to hand combat factors. All re typed on a two sided sheet which works well for me. Next game I'm going to drop to just 8 points per side for solo gaming as an experiment.

Lee, thanks for the update, I’m so pleased to see this project come to fruition, it looks excellent and presses the right buttons! (And keeps you gaming :-) ) Your painting style gives a lovely ‘pop’. I’m sure this series of posts and this update in particular are going to inspire and be the basis of many related type projects for gamers ….. it would be nice if they would reward with a comment!
ReplyDeleteHi again Norm and thank you :) This suits me perfectly, quick and easy to set up, played through in comfort and then packs away in under 10 minutes! I'm quite deeply into the AWI and keen to be able to represent the smaller 'local' actions on my table, maybe even just 6 to 8 bases (or points per side). I'm also very much into the French & Indian Wars which is another possibility for expansion.
DeleteI have to say how inspired this all was by your work on your blog around pin board and small army/small space games etc Norm so thank you. I must also credit Bob Cordery and his Portable Wargaming concept, his new YouTube channel is very good and his presentation and explanation of the rules system is excellent and contains some very good ideas. Well worth a subscription. Bob's 'Power Point' style presentation would work well for presenting one of my own small games with photos, supporting explanatory text and narration so I'm giving this a lot of thought!
All the best,
Lee
Great looking game. Glad to see you playing again.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. I'm very much enjoying myself with tis project.

Looks really good Lee - which side won?
ReplyDeleteThanks Ian. It was a British victory but I learned a few things about how best to deploy the Continentals! Placing the Militia in front of the line infantry proved to be a bad idea, even though it was historical and I wanted to try it out. They were shot to pieces by fire from the Grenadiers, light infantry and Hessians and I left no space for them to fall back through the solid line behind them! Lesson learned, leave room for retreat in order to bring up the better quality troops. The American artillery battery also proved to be poorly positioned, unlimbered too soon. All good fun though.

That looks a pretty effective compact gaming system you have there, be careful you might become a full on gamer! ;o)
ReplyDeleteHi Rob, this may be just what I have been searching for, maximum game play in minimum space!
DeleteCheers,
Lee.
Would you share your '1776' DBN variant or at least the modifications made to the standard set, which I guess is mainly eliminating that which isn't required for the AWI?
DeleteHi Rob. Yes I will soon as I'm confident I have them about right for the period. I think I'm almost there.

Well done matey - they look lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve, you know how good these 'Pigs' are :) It's a great range of figures.

Lee.
The battle sounded good fun Lee - and, better still, a victory for the Brits & allies ⚔️⚔️ Will you be doing a campaign of linked battles, or just a series of one-offs?
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Geoff
Hi Geoff, probably just single battles at least to begin with and I'm 100% comfortable with how the rules play. As a General I still need L Plates!
