What feels like weeks of endless rain and grey skies here in the UK is certainly affecting lots of people but for those of us who suffer from Depression and Anxiety it's more than just feeling a bit low. It can be a right bast**d to live with at times and impacts seriously upon your daily living. It's hard to get motivated and to find pleasure in anything that you used to enjoy. As one who has a clinical diagnosis and lived with it for the past 18 years at least I know that it will pass as we move closer to Spring so in the meantime we battle on as best we can.
The Royal Mail situation continues to frustrate me! 9 days ago I ordered a couple of pots of Vallejo varnish from my regular and reliable supplier which were dispatched via RM Tracked 48 the same day but have yet to arrive. As a result I'm backed up with painted figures waiting for their protective coat, all paid for awaiting shipping including all of the recent wagons etc for Old John. Really annoying to say the least. I noticed that this story has now made the front page on the BBC News online so it's clearly a nation wide thing. Must admit that I was not aware that RM was sold to last year to a foreign Billionaire so is no longer a UK owned company?
Family History Project.
Finding some great info and old images. This is Lyndhurst Way, London SE15 in 1915 with the Royal Artillery exercising the horses on the street. Its a road I knew very well growing up as it was the home of my late Aunt and I spent a lot of time round there Great photo? Also a poor quality Google screen image of the same spot today. I hope you find these of interest.
I'm still painting to keep myself busy and focused which is a good thing. Having painted the most recent batch of Epic ACW's for Noel - also awaiting varnish - I have a couple of units of Epic French Napoleonic battalions next for new customer Tim, we have agreed two units per month going forward on the usual rolling basis which is good.
Onwards and Upwards my friends :)

Also feeling it dude. Grey skies are a killer. Keeping busy / distracted is the only solution. It’ll pass. Loving the location photos btw. I bet there were a lot of roses that benefitted from the army deployment. Strange how the same scene looks grim today despite the so called life style improvements we all enjoy.
ReplyDeleteCheers Mark. Your comments re the street scenes I agree with, Peckham/Camberwell were pretty middle class areas of South East London in 1915 but so very different today for sure!
DeleteLee.
I enjoyed your video. The Essex are perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks Norm, and for the lovely comment on the video. I had to push myself to get motivated to make it but pleased how it turned out considering it's just a one shot, no editing job!
DeleteCheers,
Lee.
Hi Lee
ReplyDeleteYou must be missing those sunny days in Spain?
There are a lot of storms further south and inland, but here in Valencia sunny days and high teen temperatures
We love our visits to family in the UK, but always happy to get back to sunny Spain
I was not really aware of grey skies when I was working in the UK, but much more now that I am retired
I am fortunate not to suffer from depression, but I appreciate the effect the weather can have
Hope the sun returns soon and you get your mojo back
regards
Paul
Thank you Paul. I still see Jan's Facebook posts featuring your lovely walks. Life in the UK is not much fun at the moment, the daily news is most depressing as is the weather but it's home and I think this is why I'm doing the Family History thing currently, to re connect myself with my roots here.
DeleteAll the best to you both,
Lee.
Lee,
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean about how depressing things have been of late due to the seemingly endless days of grey skies and rain. I’ve been taking doses of vitamin D on the advice of my doctor, and this seems to have helped me avoid to much contact with my ‘Black Dog’. Mind you, I’m not sure how much is down to the placebo affect!
Good luck with your family history. Coincidentally, over the past few days I’ve been coming across the evidence that the Royal Horse Artillery have been exercising its horses in our area. At least some gardens might have benefited from some natural and very fresh fertiliser as a result.
All the best,
Bob
Thank you for the comment Bob. Bad time of year but we almost into Spring now, it's just funny how many people you speak to are feeling it!
DeleteI know that the RA (Royal Field Artillery) are very much associated with Woolwich Barracks which is what surprised me about this photo. A bit of research told me that they also drilled on Peckham Common just a mile or so from Lyndhurst in the photo. I'm hoping to discover more about this. I'm sure locals would have been out with buckets and spades afterwards :)
Hope you are feeling better now,
Cheers,
Lee.
