Passenger service departure at Yaldbury!

This little project is bringing me a real sense of achievement which is why I'm sharing it here, and it has me thinking about how I used to feel the same about wargaming but no longer do and why. I don't intend to overthink things though, just enjoy the moment. I'm considering extending the layout beyond the tunnel  which would allow a longer run in and a brewery with siding (good Kentish Ale!)

On the painting front it's Peninsular Month, starting with 2 battalions of the Young Guard, 18mm AB figures for Mark. I have also now secured the remainder of Hannibal's Epic Army which comprises 28 bases of 5 skirmishers, 24 bases of 5 cavalry, 12 bases of  20 Libyan heavy infantry (strips), various mounted command figures, the 'Specials' Generals packs and of course the Elephants so I'm pretty solidly booked now for a few months ahead.

The 4F tender loco has pulled the branch passenger service into the station and uncoupled to run around the loop.

Still on the workbench, more to do!

3F tank loco awaits departure in the siding with a short goods delivery.

A view along the non scenic end, 4F has now reversed to re couple and is ready to take out the limited passenger service.

    1. Thank you Ian, I had been threatening to do this for decades :) Being just 4' long in total it stores away easily and also fits nicely into my painting alcove for work or operating. It's an enjoyable self contained project.
      Cheers,
      Lee.

  2. Yaldbury has been fascinating to follow, I like the idea of a small self contained project. It will be interesting to see what you do with the elephants …… are you going to save them until the end as a treat?

    1. Thanks Norm, and I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. Just adding details now, did you spot the benches, trolleys, suitcases and station lamps? Next I think I need a set of signals, possibly wired to operate :)

PLeased that Leo has asked me to complete Hannibals Army for him, it's going to be HUGE on the table! The Elephants will be the stars of the army I think and will get extra special treatment. Yes, I thought maybe save them to last, the job is scheduled over 3 months August, September, October so will be a while yet.

With Yaldbury drawing towards completion I'm not sure what to do next for myself but will confess I have been watching The One Hour Skirmish videos on YouTube and am being drawn to the scenic possibilities on a very small board with just a handful of figures! https://youtu.be/IhuWNJJJw5k?si=kYjHGY3L4KxVZnSd

      Cheers,

    1. Oh Norm, now that is quite something! I have the book, I have my 2'6 x 2'6 folding card table covered with Geek Villain fleece mat and a newly found enthusiasm for small scale modular terrain building, Damn :)
      Cheers,
      Lee.

  4. That's a lovely project. I can see how satisfying and rewarding that must be. When I get into a wargames funk, I've often thought of doing dioramas instead. Alas, I just don't have space for railways, but I do think they are the pinnacle of terrain making.

  5. Thank you for leaving this comment Dr Beard :) I was in two minds before I started Yaldbury between going 54mm collectors figures or attempting a small layout and I decided to do this, at least to begin with! I have needed to learn some new skills such as electrical wiring and soldering etc. The terrain modelling has certainly been an enjoyable challenge.
    Cheers,
    Lee.
