It's all coming together now and fits comfortably into my painting alcove on top of the desk. 750 x 750 for solo DBN to my own '1776' variant. I painted a quick backscene on 5mm foamboard which I hope will improve the aesthetic appeal of the battles.
With around 250 figures painted I can't go much further with this project but I'm very tempted by the Peter Pig Wars of the Roses range as a follow up.

Really good work with the background Lee. Great minds must think alike as I was just eyeing up the PP War of the Roses stuff. Have you read “The Hollow Crown” by Dan Jones a fantastic gripping history of the WOR, can see where the writer of Game of Thrones got his ideas!

DeleteTo be honest I do little reading these days as I spend many hours painting and like to rest my eyes afterwards so mostly I watch or listen to historical YouTube channels whilst painting. I have a lot of WoR stuff lined up. I should read more as I used to though.

I am in awe of anyone who can paint something apparently so simple and yet so effective as your back scene. Very nice pictures and I hope there will be something to read of your DBAWI game. I am strongly tempted by DBSYW as I seem to lack enthusiasm for setting up a bigger game. Jim Walkley

DeleteDBSYW works well as I have seen games played on the 'Unofficial DBA' FB Group. I too have little appetite for big games now days so this small set up works well for me.

Thanks Geoff. I have tried to be even handed with the casualties :) They come in all shades of Red, Blue, Green, White, Grey etc! Can't believe I have painted 4 packs of them (32). I'm looking at cavalry casualties now.

I particularly like the camera set up on the tripod ready to take photos
My table is 6x6 foot and I have to balance on the top of a step ladder to get it all in!
I appreciate that your enjoyment comes from making the scenery and painting the figures.
But I hope to see a couple of games before you get too interested in War of the Roses.

I really like the grass effect in the backdrop, it's just a shame it will be out of focus in all your action shots.

Cheers Iain. I have certainly passed on a few figures over the years/decades :) Might hang on to this small project as it has a lot of potential for small space games and I will no doubt continue to add the odd unit as and when I feel like it as I just enjoy painting them so much!
