Struggling on - building number 2.

For the last two days I have been suffering from a painfully stiff shoulder that has been preventing me from sleeping properly through the night. Possibly it's a result of my struggling to cut out thin plywood sheet with a blunt knife blade a few days ago as I can't think of anything else that might have caused it, I know my arm was aching at the time. However, it's been worth the pain as I'm really getting into this house building business now and have moved onto the first of the town houses, the church being essentially finished save for the tiling of the roof once I find the best method of doing this.

Pictures taken this morning with more figures to show scale, I think just about right, any smaller and the cavalry would have looked wrong alongside. I should have slightly reduced the height of the first house against the chapel maybe, but can't do much now so I'll run with it. Second house ready to cut out later today and I'll vary the style a bit. Doors require painting and all windows need card frames fitted next, then to tone down the stonework/render, wish I had an airbrush for that.

I think the tiling will now need to be laid from individual semi circular overlapped tiles, that's going to be a real labour of love! More to follow.

News on the RHA crew from Ian, he should collect the first full printed set from Graham on Sunday, very slightly reduced in height to better match S&S/Perry 40mm's. More printed sets hopefully the following week, this is very exciting news.

We also finally have an offer on our house this morning, hopefully we can finalise the deal today. Very nice Swiss couple returned for second viewing yesterday. We also have a Dutch couple booked in for the morning if negotiations go pear shaped but fingers crossed. Not a British buyer to seen apparently and any mention of Brexit has our fellow Europeans falling about with laughter, what a mess!

  1. Great looking buildings matey. Sorry to hear about your shoulder but happy you now have a sale - with something in reserve just in case.

  3. Well, Brexit, or not, your buildings are coming along nicely. We, as you are probably aware, have our own dog and pony show in full swing here, but the less said about that, the better. Are you sleeping on the shoulder that is troubling you? My left shoulder is sometimes very sore from apparently sleeping on it for several hours without moving during the nights. Of course, it could just be that I am on the wrong side of 50 now, and said shoulder was broken in a nasty car accident many years ago during the heady '80s.

    Best Regards,

    Stokes

    1. Many thanks Stokes, the roofing - once I figure out what to use - should finish them nicely.

Brexit .......... As an avid follower of politics and news for more years than I care to remember it has reached the point where I simply can't deal with the mess any longer so am trying to ignore it.

Shoulder a bit easier now, having to sleep on my back, but it's getting better. I try not to complain to my wife too much, as she says, in the great scheme of things etc. And I'm on the wrong side of 60 now!

  4. Very nice. Have you considered these for the tiles? What about the Roman pantiles?

    1. Many thanks indeed for that link, it's a product I was not aware of and certainly something that could work. I'm just trying to find an image of the tile sheets on a building to see how it looks.

      Much appreciated,
      Lee.

    2. Some other thoughts... corrugated cardboard of course.. cut in strips and offset perhaps? I heard of someone who used dried macaroni... some other ideas..

    3. Thanks Steve, I think you have just solved the problem :) I wasted no time in downloading the terracotta roman roof tiles sheet and it is excellent, absolutely spot on. I ordered it in 7mm scale which I think is 'O Gauge' so looks right for 40mm scale figures. Now I'm just thinking that maybe that sheeting could be laid over wooden barbecue skewers for relief. It looks very convincing as it is though. I'll enjoy having a play around with things today :)

  5. Nicely proportioned building and texture, works well with your cavalry, you couldn't have it much smaller I don't think.
